Driving in the UK – Familiarisation
This vehicle and road familiarisation course has been designed to meet the needs of people either visiting or planning to work in the UK. The course provides a safe environment in which to experience a variety of road types and traffic conditions.
It will also provide an assessment of a drivers’ familiarisation of driving in the UK and identify any further training needs.

- Individuals who are new to UK driving and wish to improve confidence and familiarity
- Embassies and global corporations who ask overseas employees to drive in the UK
Objectives of the course:
- To allow practical experience in a right-hand drive vehicle
- To provide knowledge of the variety of UK roads
- Familiarise with UK traffic conditions
What’s covered?
- The Highway Code, UK traffic regulations
- What to do in an accident
- Pre-drive vehicle checks along with familiarisation of a right-hand drive vehicle
- UK traffic conditions and features – such as junctions and roundabouts
- Driving on a variety of road types, in different traffic conditions
- Discussion of learning points and key areas for development
- Any recommendations for further training requirements where appropriate
- Debrief, assessment report and certificate
