Trial Date Set

On February 23, 2010 the first corporate manslaughter trial will begin. Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings Ltd will be the first company to be charged under the new Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, meaning that all eyes will be on this trial in February.

Defence counsel for both the company and the managing director indicated that not-guilty pleas will be entered. Peter Eaton, managing director of Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings Ltd is also charged with common law manslaughter and a breach of Section 37 of the HSAW Act 1974.

The trial date was confirmed last week and is expected to last between four and six weeks. Around half of the 68 prosecution witnesses are likely to be called to give evidence.
