Recycling

December 3, 2007

Car manufacturers are being urged to recycle more.

At present about 75% of the scrap from old vehicles can be recycled but this leaves the rest to go to landfill. A report by Oxford Brookes University predicts that the number of vehicles on the road will rise by 65% in the next 23 years – the challenge is to ensure we can recycle far more vehicle parts.

The report estimates that 3.5bn tonnes of scrap will be produced in the next 2 decades (enough to fill Wembley Stadium more than 1000 times!)

The report urges the automotive industry to act in a timely manner.
